I love 2007 already

So… I decided my life was to become a comedy, it’s working already :-)

Even though the day didn’t start as planned (does it ever in a comedy?), it turned out just fine.
It all began while I was trying to get out the door to go to my grandma, who lives in Heilloo. (Try pronouncing that one, you native English speakers!)
The phone bleeped. As it hadn’t bleeped that often on work related issues over the past two weeks, I (for the first time I can remember since being on call) thought it was a friend… Not! (Serves me right for thinking positive)
Took my coat off, sat behind the laptop and by golly, it was that self-solving-routing-issue… again… This time, it took longer to solve itself, so I called the provider in question.
After making several (and very humble) apologies for disturbing them on a Sunday, it was explained to me that the issues of late were to do with a faulty switch. (A Riverstone, nomen est omen, they belong on the bottom of the Amstel river, *not* in any data centre)
After this whole deal, I was way to late to make it to my brothers’ place in time, so I called them, they were going to pick me up. (Yay for cool brothers)

About half an hour after I expected them, I decided to give them a call. First I called the none driving little brother. His phone was off. (That will give any big sister a heart attack) Next I called the driving little brother. The none driving little brother answered. I assumed both were alive…
What do you think had happened, no, really, take a guess…
Engine shut down on the middle of the freeway. No place to put the car away safe, because it being right next to an exit. On that road (S112 for those of you who know Amsterdam, coming from the centre, just where the A10 is crossing) it’s not very wise to spend any time as a pedestrian. Very unhealthy. (Unless you’re moving 80km/hr in the direction of the traffic)
One and a half hour later, they were towed (sooo cool, they could sit in the truck) away and got a loan car. (A brand new VW Golf, with less than 2000 km on the dashboard clock thingy)
I went to my father’s (closer to the garage) and off we went.

Great car, really, very comfy, but the radio was bust. Honestly, we could get anything between two and five radio stations, depending on where we were, these varied, and there wasn’t a decent one between them.
We greatly enjoyed ourselves yelling (really, singing isn’t the word you want to use here) along with all of the classics.

As I looked over the Dutch country side in the falling dusk (if night can fall, so can dusk), I realized how much I love this country.
The views, the grey sky (as long as you’re in a car with heating and a working engine), the way the light hits the falling rain in the distance. Really, it was pretty.

My brothers’ sense of humour is awesome, they’re great fun. We laughed and joked. I miss them some times, I should make an effort to spend more time with them. (They agree, but fear not, party at my place on Saturday and they’re coming, so if you want to meet two of the most eligible bachelors in Amsterdam, pop over too!)

Oh wait, I was telling you about my day. We finally made it to grams’ place. We had poffertjes (Hadn’t had those since 1999 (newspaper around pan dating rules)) and of course, we once more set the fire alarms off :-)
Grams had made us home made tomato soup too. She rocks! ;-)

Back in the car, we yelled along with the radio some more, sadly, the first sing-along we actually liked (smells like teen spirit) started about two minutes from my house, so I missed the last bit :-(

I got home and reflected on the day. It’s working, it’s really working. My life turned into a comedy.
Some things that would have pissed me off (or at least annoyed me) otherwise, were no nuisance at all today. You just have to… (Sing along!)
So always look on the bright side of death
Just before you draw your terminal breath

Oh wait, wrong bit of right song
And… always look on the bright side of life…
Always look on the light side of life…
