So… About that new captcha…

Brambo wrote a blogposting about reCAPTCHA.

Basically, it’s a normal captcha, only this one takes two words, one of which the outcome is known and one which was wrongfully interperted by whatever software is trying to digitise books for the Archive.

What can go wrong is nicely shown here… (click for a larger version)

So they could take the words “This” and “aged”, where you typing in the word “aged” proves you’re human, and your spelling of the word This (together with a bunch of other people) will in the end convince the computer that the word “This” should be indeed interpreted as that word. Pretty cool, really, awesome!

From now on, everyone *has* to comment on my blog (and Brambo’s of course), so that more books can be digitised! (And more comments for me too, yay!)
